Dr. Metzger-Smit has been on staff since 2002. She shares her life and home with 2 black labs, Hunter and Freyja as well as 3 cats, Little Kitty, Colby and Taz. Dr. Metzger-Smit grew up in South Florida and graduated from Florida Atlantic University School of Biological Sciences in 1988 and from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992. She practiced in the Jacksonville area for 10 years before moving to the Orlando area and joining Piedmont Animal Hospital. She developed an interest in complementary medicine to augment her practice of veterinary medicine. In 2001 she was certified by the AVCA in animal chiropractic. She was certified as a veterinary acupuncturist and herbalist by the Chi Institute and the China Society of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine in 2000 and 2001 respectively. In 2009 she received certification for Tui-Na, a form of gentle manipulation. She has a special interest in internal medicine and critical care. Her hobbies include cooking and yoga.
